Design Observatory at the Center for Design Research

The design observatory is being developed with the explicit goal of facilitating data collection and analysis procedures associated with in-situ observation of designers. Such data will include but not be limited to video and audio formats. As new sensors are added to the data collection protocols, the technical specification of the observatory will be updated. We will try to maintain a state of the art capability in new voice recognition technologies which promise to reduce data processing time. The observation room allows in-situ observation of designers, and also makes possible virtual and remote observations with current broadband and mobile technologies.

The design observatory is located in, and supported by, the Center for Design Research and is affiliated with the Stanford Learning Laboratory and the Design Division of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Stanford University.
