Thermosciences Division of the
Mechanical Engineering Department

[ Faculty ][ Facilities ] [ Courses ][ PhoneBook ]

Introduction

Thermosciences deals primarily with the engineering sciences associated with advanced energy conversion systems. The course work and research cover a broad spectrum of experimental and theoretical studies, including heat transfer, fluid mechanics, applied thermodynamics, Plasmadynamics, combustion, and the physics of gases.

Within the Division there are two major research subdivision groups, the High Temperature Gasdynamics Laboratory (HTGL) and the Heat Transfer and Turbulence Mechanics group (HTTM). The Division also hosts the Stanford-NASA Center for Turbulence Research. Additional material on these groups is included in this booklet.
