Martial Arts

Martial Arts and me

I first studied Tae Kwon Do in Korea when I was in the army there, but dropped it when I returned. I started again when I was 38, and won tournaments when I was 39 and 40. But I was never really any good at kicking and my real love was Hapkido.

When I came to CA, I studied just a few months with the Stanford Aiki Jujitsu class but then spent a few years taking Zentai Judo/Jujitsu class with the City of Los Altos run by a very eclectic group of teachers. I wasn't very good yet at the grappling and throwing, but I really like the counters to being grabbed and doing defense while blind. All told, I've had about 20 years of experience in Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Judo, and Jujitsu.

Because of multiple leg traumas in the last two years of the last century, I am no longer active, though perhaps I could go back to the counters sometime.
