Academic Efforts are Important
Because industry is too fast and short-sighted.
I support
old successes like OWL-S/RDF/RDF-S
new work like WSMO and
SAWSDL
Great news that
Aduna, Altova, Ontoprise, and TopQuadrant are commercial companies,
and that
Oracle
is building RDF databases.
And we academics have better tools and better theory for ontologies.
Well-done.
But we need either to be
industrially-relevant
or come up with an
amazing
application.
So let's look at the barriers to industrial relevance.
