Boeing's Perceived Problems

Too much innovation and loss of internal design knowledge

Doesn't seem like this has much to do with IT. But look deeper.
  • "...a complex supply chain of about 50 partners."
  • "international team of suppliers and engineers from the United States, Japan, Italy, Australia, France and elsewhere,.."
  • "tribal knowledge is a key ingredient in the development of a new plane,"
  • "He said he had to fill out paper work to order a single washer and waited one day to receive it from the outside supplier."
  • "It's a very elaborate supply chain, so even their suppliers don't necessarily control where parts are being made. So it's a very complicated web of work now that's not so easy to fix when there's a problem."
  • There was too little supply chain innovation.
