The table below displays the html strings for the 214 available ASCII symbols you may need to include in your web page. There are both numerical and alternate literal strings for many symbols, and either may be used. To apply them in a webpage, simply type the full sequence as shown, including the trailing semicolon. As an example, the copyright (©) may be displayed as shown in this HTML example:

HTML: Here is a display of the © symbol.
Which looks like this on the page: Here is a display of the © symbol.

The closing semicolon is a part of the symbol !

Generally, you should use lower-case format for typing character sequences, but be aware that some sequences are indeed case-sensitive and may require that you use a specific case. All of these may be modified in the usual way with the standard HTML formatting tags, such as bold, color, font size, superscript, etc. The values for standard English characters are shown to satisfy the curious - obviously, there is no need to use the sequences for any standard text - they're usually needed, however, for any symbol or non-English punctuation.

Hint: Call this page into your browser anytime it's needed. Highlight the html for the desired character with your mouse, then Edit_Copy/Paste into the html you're preparing.

Note: The symbol   (or   ) is the non-breaking space, which will not allow the browser to break text in which it is used as a spacer(s).
