Saturday I rode to Munich. My old ADAC Karte of Oberbayern 1:150000 is just perfect as it has all of the roads inbetween Innsbruck and Munich. But I didn't do anything fancy. After I dropped off some things at DERI, I got on the A12 just until the Seefeld exit. Again, lots of bikes going in all directions. And when traffic was held up, some of us just passed everyone ducking in when ever there was oncoming traffic.

I took the 177 to the German border (very close) where it became the 2/E533 and through Mittenwald. Then a right on Krën. Here in the mountains, it's cool enough that I put my leather pants back on just outside of Seefeld.

These are lovely roads. I stopped at the very beautiful mountain lake called Walchensee.img_0004 I parked beside some other bikes and the bikers at the table all said hello. They remembered me from the AutoZug! They had been on that train, ridden in the Alps for a week on some of the same passes I rode Thurs, and they were on their way backimg_0008 to Munich to catch the train home.

Just north of the Walchensee, before Kochel, there is a set of mountain turns marked 60Km/h. They mean it. Even on the bike that's a good speed for these turns. Then that was the last of the fun and the mountains.

The rest of the trip grew progressively flatter and hotter. I took the 472 to Bad Tölz and then the 13 up to Holzkirchen, where I caught the A8 into Munich. I went straight in and did the inner ring, which, unfortunately, was under construction. Very hot. But with a little backtracking, I found my hotel and called Kurt.

He led me to his garage, which is at an undisclosed location, because he has a magnificient collection of Ducattis. I offered to cover up my old BMW, but he said he had already told the Italian bikes that they were to have such a visitor for a bit. I left all of the bike and hiking gear with the bike and was able to fit my clothes and toiletries into the small pack I had for this purpose. Then back to the hotel.

Later I went into the city to reaquaint myself with Munich, such as Sendlinger Straße img_0009 and Marienplatz img_0010 where I buy books at Hëgendugel. Coming back, I notice that I am in Schwabing opposite the big Northern Cemetery and an orthodox churchimg_0012 that I can use as a landmark.
