On this trip, I went first to Galway, then Dublin (no pictures), then London, and then Crete. And then back to Galway. The Crete pictures are not yet available and are mostly of people at the research retreat (except the last two pictures in the London section are of the Crete resort on the first evening.)

Cliffs of Moher Tour

The pictures of my 2nd stay in Galway were mostly of the coach trip out to the Cliffs of Moher, on a beautiful day. We stopped to do a tour of the Aillwee Cave, used as den by the last cave bears in Ireland (you can see the depressions they made) and originally carved by an underground river - the channel pipe is still visible in the roof. Then we saw dolmens, one recent and one old: the Poulnabrone.

You can see from the pictures how much I enjoyed frolicing on the edge. For instance, in img_0110, you can see a bit of a green peninsula with small towers jutting out from the main cliff. On top of the cliff are small flat overhangs. If you walk out to the very smallest of these, and look down at the peniinsula, you get the image in img_0114. And so on. :)

On the way back, we had a great lunch at a small town (Doolin) with a beautiful stream running through it. I mailed a postcard and it was picked up within the half hour. img_0133 Then some more rambling through the rocky (understatement) Burrens with great views of Galway Bay, Galway being on the other side.
