CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION
- Every participant must have a valid motorcycle license.
- Every participating vehicle must be in safe
condition and be in accordance with the rules
and regulations of the state in which it
is registered.
- Each participating vehicle is subject to by
an event organizer with respect to the following points
(usually done in an orientation ride-thru):
- brakes
- tires
- exhaust noise
- lights
- license plate
- alterations of the vehicle not in accordance
with its state regulations
Any vehicle not conforming with its state
regulations or judged to be unsafe
for street use may be rejected from participation.
- Motorcycles must be BMW in order to be
eligible for an award.
- All riders must be registered as Rally
participants.
- Participants may go through the course with an
official if requested
- Judges scoring points may not participate
but those assisting only in organization
and calculation of points may participate.
An accounting of the results is only for the
purpose of determining of event prizes by NorCal.
- Announced times and judgments are final.
Exceptional rules are possible upon a decision
by the event organizers.
START AND COURSE RUN
- The score will be taken from the best of two trials
through the course. Based upon place or capacity, the
organizers may omit the second run. An announcement
about this will be made to the participants prior to
the beginning of the contest.
- One can ride one's own vehicle or one that is
loaned. But no one vehicle may participate more than
three times in a contest.
- Two participations by a rider using a false name
are not allowed.
- Obstacles will be placed in the course so there is
no stretch through which a vehicle could sprint.
- The course must contain at least four (4) obstacle
tasks, the last always being the finishing stop line.
- The sequence of obstacles is chosen by the organizers
using those suggested in this document.
Pre-Ride Workshop
The organizers will guide a pre-ride through the course as time
permits. Each rider will be coached by the organizers. This
pre-ride will be organized: there is no riding without permission to
be on the course.
SCORING
- Numbers of riding mistakes will be converted to a
Error Points (EP)
using the conversions in the Evaluation
Table below.
- Scorings will be public - mistakes will be
displayed on a board or by hand signals from
judges. Mistake scoring will be determined by
the scoring in the obstacles scoring section
below.
- Times through the course are directly
converted from seconds to Time Points (TP) E.g., a course
time of 32.24 seconds = 32.24 Time Points.
- Error Points (EP) are added to the Time
Points (TP). The resulting sum is the total of Penalty
Points (PP) used for final scoring. PP = EP + TP
- The winner is the rider with the smallest
total Penalty Points. In the case of a tie on total
points, the one with the fewest error points wins.
If both the time and error points are the same,
then there will be a "runoff". If
the result is still a tie, then the winner
is decided by a coin-toss.
- Contest Interruption
The following violations will stop the contest for a
rider:
- Failure to be completely stopped at start time.
- Omission of one or more course tasks.
- Failure to follow the instructions or sequence of
the course.
- Obvious help in improving the results by a third
party.
- Use of help devices.

The event organizers will use special scoring of
the obstacles as indicated for each obstacle below.
If the obstacle is sufficiently badly run, it
may be construed as a contest interruption as
described above. Special rules about foot
touchings are as follows:
- The whole course counts for points - the feet may
not touch the ground between the Start and Finish stop lines,
including indicated intermediate stop lines. At the Finish stop
lines, the rider must stop without touching and
then ride off the course.
- Every touching of the ground will count as at least
one mistake, up to a maximum of 10 mistakes on one
course. More than 10 foot touchings will be a
contest interruption.
- Extreme leaning causing the shoes (or bike parts)
to touch the ground will not count as a mistake.
SLALOM
(Inline or offset count as distinct obstacles)
A minimum of 7 cones or unstable poles as markers
Scoring:
Knocking over a marker, or going outside the marked
course - 1 Mistake
Incomplete running of the course (e.g., exiting through
a gap) - 3 Mistakes
BOX
The rider must enter and exit by the selected gates,
making at least two U turns.
Scoring:
Knocking over a marker, or going outside the marked
course - 1 Mistake
Incomplete running of the course (e.g., not exiting through
an exit gate) - 3 Mistakes
BOARD
The whole length of the board is to be traversed (twins
spans for sidecars)
Scoring:
leaving the board - 2 Mistakes
TRAVERSAL OF TRACK
Cones and marked lines will determine
the boarders of the track as explained by
event organizers.
Neither the front nor read wheels should touch the
borders of the track.
Scoring:
Each touching of a border - 1 Mistake
Incomplete transversal - additional 2 Mistakes
SPIRAL
The rider is required to traverse a decreasing radius
spiral with one entry gate and one exit gate. This
is scored the same as a slalom.
Scoring:
Knocking over a marker, or going outside the marked
course - 1 Mistake
Incomplete running of the course (e.g., exiting through
a gap) - 3 Mistakes
STOP LINE
At designated stop lines, the rider must halt the
motorcycle so that the front wheel is on the stop
line (about 30 cm.) There will be at least one
stop line at the Finish of the course. Another
may be an intermediate obstacle.
Scoring:
Halting with the front wheel on either side of the
stop line - 1 Mistake
Complete driving over the line (with the back wheel)
- 2 Mistakes
The rider should stop without putting a foot
down, and then ride off.
What part of the course is timed is determined by
the organizers on the basis of safety. The
organizers may also require an intermediate
halt, with no touching of the foot to the ground,
for the purpose of timing completion.

This illustrates one legal path through the
obstacles marked with red cones and lines, but
this is not necessarily an optimal path.
