What is AI? (Remember?)

AI was the use of AI technologies

Useful, though circular, when technologies are formal

But definitions that rest on "viewed as" are less so:
E.g., a "software agent" is software that is viewed as

doing something for the user (like a software program?)

intelligent (how would you know?)

autonomous (see intelligent)

We can do better in defining, usefully, agent software technology, especially with respect to software engineering.
