Agent-Oriented
Software Engineering (AOSE)

Jennings & Woolridge 99

Principle of emergent behavior reduces programing complexity.

But in fact we know little about how to guarantee emergent behavior.

Swarm Intelligence is good for optimization problems but little else.

But simple "software ants" can offer features such as graceful dgradation, often touted as a feature of "intelligent agens".

Moreover, methodologies assoiciated with UML seem to have more impact on AOSE than the other way round.
