Herzogstand 11 Jul 2013

In this trip, we climbed two peaks, both slightly over 1790 meters (slightly less than 6000 feet) seperated by a difficult/interesting rocky gorge crossing on a ridge, starting from the Walchensee at 800 meters. We climbed up about 1000m/3300' to the first peak.

We first visited the Herzogstand: a princely hunting lodge, and the Gipfel (peak) above it where once stood a giant antenna for studying the Ionosphere. Today, there is just a kiosk explaining the history. And a giant cross, as there is for every peak, where we took pictures and contgratulated ourselves.

Then we crossed the gorge to the Heimgarten peak and stopped for refreshment at the Hut there. Then back down. Much of this trip was in very dense fog. Finally we could see a bit when we were much deeper down in the lovely forest. I made a bad mistake: I thought we were staying the night in the Hut and was carrying at least a 10Kg pack during this 8 hour hike. But I managed.
