Stuck in a Model
Remember Interactive Television?
-
IT was briefly touted as the
successor to the Internet:
had the backing of the established TV broadcast
industry
and got the press coverage.
-
The Internet was derided as an imature technology,
playground of hackers:
- no solid major backing
- unsecure
- no QOS
-
The Internet was a disruptive
technology because
- it could be put in
place cheaply as a grassroots effort
- it worked well enough already
- no centralized control needed
- nodes add value to the network
