How does vision-based quantitative 3D help?

• Measure height and overall size of vent and track growth over time

• Measure size of biological creatures surrounding the vent

3D reconstruction has been done, but according to leading researchers in the field, there has been geometric modeling of 3D mapping in general, but no full analysis on how that translates into real-world situations using real cameras and how to match what the cameras actually take with what the models predict. A full calibration process has not been invented/documented to quantify the errors taken with these systems.

• Addressing “good as possible” line with hope to make an order of magnitude improvement of what’s currently available.
