MADEFAST State of the Design
In order to provide a starting point, the overall design
is shown roughly as a
double mirror design. (This sketch is by George Toye
as promised in the
July 5th meeting).
Overall, the design consists of three main components:
-
Mechanical:
this consists of
gimbals, bearings,
gimbal assemblies, detector shroud and support, optical supports,
casing, and motor support.
-
Optics:
this consists of the camera (a CCD) for imaging,
and any lenses and/or mirrors required for the camera or detector.
-
Control:
this consists of the detector (a PSD) for
tracking, sensors for measuring position and rate of change,
perhaps rate gyros for stability, and the microprocessor
and boards implementing the control algorithms. Note that
the PSD consists not only of the chip, but also power supply,
bandpass filters, circuitry for signal modulation, etc.
