A Compact is a shape that can be made in one cycle of Shape and Deposition. A Compact List contains the Compacts needed to make a part and their correct order. The merging of Compacts and the correct ordering of them is an area of active research.
Here lies one of the advantages of the Design by Composition Interface. The designer can look at the Compact List generated by the software and receive information on how the part will be made and make appropriate changes and revisions.
Figure 4. Compacts. The manufacturing information is stored in the form of a Compact List. A Compact is a shape that can be made in one step of Deposition and Shaping. The software developed by Mike Binnard performs the appropriate Compact merging and ordering.
