MADEFAST Media Events
The following are events that specifically concern
the use of network multimedia for Madefast collaboration.
Media-based Collaboration Efforts
- Mark Cutkosky visits Utah on 21 April 94. Returns with plans to
do a satellite video conference and a preliminary 2-D gimbal design
sketch that is put in the Madefast web. The motivation for the video
conference is that web pages and email from unknown people at Stanford
seems confusing until a personality is attached to the electronic
messages.
-
Satellite Video Conference between Utah and Stanford on 27 Apr 94.
- Bill Chan of CMU and Charles Petrie of Stanford perform a
non-video test of mbone unicast on 20 May 94. Bill Chan was able to
capture a fragment of a Mosaic GIF, convert it to PostScript, and add
it to the shared whiteboard where both could annotate it.
- On 31 May 94, Mark Cutkosky of Stanford and Mike Terk of CMU
attempt to use mbone for a design session. They discover that the 30K
limit on PostScript files is too limiting for real design discussion.
- Mbone use by Mark and Carolyn in July, experimentally.
- Collaboration has continued almost exclusively using
the WWW in July - November 1994. Messages too numerous
to document have been exchanged with details of web
reorganization, new pictures available, changes in URLs, ect.
