DesignJournal

DesignJournal is a subproject of Design Space Colonization

The objective of this project is to develop tools to bind informal design information, like that found in electronic notebooks, to formal structured design tools like ProcessLink, PODS, and Design Roadmap.

Click on the icon for a detailed view of the DesignJournal architecture and how it binds informal documentation with formal terminology used by ProcessLink.

The components of DesignJournal are:

·  PENS - an electronic text- and graphics- based design notebook that facilitates lightweight, informal authoring, collection, organizing and sharing of personal design notes on the Web.

·  AEDNL - an ABSML-based Electronic Design Notebook Language to be developed by a Working Group consisting of CDR, EIT, KSL, and Lockheed. ABSML stands for A Better Standard Markup Language. A starting point for AEDNL will be the Electronic Project Language (EPL). AEDNL will be a design documentation language that can be used by Lockheed's MECE and similar Design Documentation Environments (DDE), as well as by formal design tools like ProcessLink.

·  DesignEliza - DesignEliza is a class of agents that discreetly queries users as they work to assist them in reflecting on the design process, enriching design process capture. While PENS supports reflection, DesignEliza actively provokes reflection. Together, information sharing is more succinct, better organized, and more easily understood. A conceptual search engine, DedalAI, is currently being developed to filter captured information for future reflection.
