We found our way again onto the main mass transit system. Took the
U2 from Schönhauser, went by the south entrance to the new
north-south railway tunnel (Potsdamer
Platz in the background) to Bismarkstr. and then U7 one more stop to
Richard-Wagner-Platz as if we were going to Afsaneh's. Walking along
Schustehrusstr., there's one of the great old water pumps
that still works.
We intended to visit the Egyptian Museum at the corner of
Schloss Str. and Spandauer Str. across from the Cholottenburg
Schloss. But it was closed! The sign said the exhibition was
at the Kultureforum temporarily. A Polish family was looking for
the museum too and they told us about a Fabrege exhibition
at the Schloss. So we toured that. It was fabulous, of course.
We weren't supposed to take pictures, but of course I did.
After that, we caught the bus on on Otto-Suhr-Allee, took
it to Ernst-Reuter-Platz, and then caught the U2 to Potsdamer Platz.
Eventually we found the Kultureforum by walking around.
This time, pictures were allowed and I took many.
It
turns out that the old museum was closed and this exhibition
was only a way station on the collection's way back home
to the Altes Museum in August.
We took a break at the Sony Center and caught up with Birgit.
Jeremy went back to the hotel to go out with some young people
in the area of Eberswalder Str. She and I went for dinner. In
the summer, there is frequently an open-air concert
in Gendarmen Platz. You have
to buy a ticket to go in but there is a restaurant right
on the corner of Jägerstr. and Markgrafenstr. where
you can hear the concert perfectly fine and eat and drink
at the same time. You can't see the orchestra, but you
can see the building and lights.
