Herbert is the father of a Ph. D. candidate with whom I work in St. Gallen, Switzerland. She said he would be delighted to organize a tour with me of new mountains. She put us in contact and he did.
She failed to mention he was mountain commando in his youth and a mountain goat now. I was hard-pressed to even keep him in sight at times, but he was very patient with me and had a great time.
We did three tours. I enjoyed all three and the last involved actual rock scrambling, which was the best for me. Here are two shots from that Kampenwand excursion:
